How to stay motivated in your exercise program

One of the major problems in following an exercise routine is to stay motivated. We are all aware that regular exercise can do wonders for the body. It helps in management of cholesterol, lower blood pressure, burn unnecessary fat, assist with blood sugar levels, promote bone density, keep the immune system in check, and improve mood by preventing depression.

Age does affect the mind in some ways. We don’t remember every details of an event, we are less alert and we do suffer from some loss of memory. Very often we encounter these ‘senior moments’ which are nothing but lapses in our memory.

Defeat arthritis by physical activity

Inflammation of joints is known as arthritis. It can be extremely painful and can disable the body. Arthritis also makes the body feeble and inactive. Several people are diagnosed with arthritis each year. As people age, arthritis tends to develop from the extended every day uses of the body. Other things though can help the development of arthritis. Being overweight, having bad posture, and serious injuries can all speed the development of this condition. Arthritis can cause the cartilage to wear out and thin. The rubbing of the bones causes irritation and inflammation. While this pain can sometimes be relieved through rest, the patient can also sometimes experience pain that seems never ending. Exercise, though, can assist with arthritis by strengthening the muscles near the joint which helps reduce joint stress. While exercise is necessary for everyone, it is essential for those with arthritis. While it is probably not a good idea to engage in the most rigorous forms of exercise with arthritis, physical activity is not out of the question. For those without arthritis, exercise can help prevent this horrible disease.

Don’t undermine stretching: It’s a great for your body

Stretching is simple and takes very little time. Most of us including seniors ignore the value of stretching. It is seldom a part of their regular workout routine.
Stretching increases muscle flexibility. This can result in a decreased likelihood of injury, better muscle performance, and a feeling of well-being that follows for hours after you’ve finished.

Exercising will keep ‘age’ away

Sitting at home and lack of activity affect both mind and body. The body starts feeling old and automatically the mind gets depressed. Getting active is the key to feel young and reenergized again. But first of all you have to check your attitude and make sure that your preconceptions about being a senior are not getting in the way of your activity. Once you can let go of what you think you should be doing at your age, then you are taking the first step toward feeling younger.

Consult Your Doctor Before Starting a New Fitness Program

When it comes to medical care, the best way to get proper care is to be free and discuss openly the critical issues with the doctor. It becomes more important when you are beginning to maintain a regular fitness routine, especially if you have been without any form of rigorous physical activity in recent months or years. A key to having a good and healthy relationship with a doctor is how you interact with him and how the doctor reciprocates. Taking an active role in your own health care makes your wellness a cooperative affair.

Strength Training: For Strong Bones

With age the bones start to become weak as well as the muscle tissues. One of the best ways to reduce the stress on our weakening bones is to increase our muscles mass through strength training. Strength training has been found to be very effective of regaining muscle strength in old people. The phenomenon of muscle loss is referred to as sarcopenia and it starts in people around the age of 45. At that time, the average person’s muscle mass begins to decline at a rate of about 1 percent per year.

Let us remember that they already have pain that they are trying to heal. The prospect of purposefully adding more pain makes exercise seem like a bad joke. Le us take a look five different ways to work around extreme exercise.

Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese martial art is an exercise activity highly suitable for senior citizens. The low-impact work-out consists of a series of very slow, gentle, and continuous movements.
